Rebecca Sutin – Director

Rebecca Sutin - Role Call Theatre Toronto Ontario

Rebecca Sutin has a BA from The University of Kings College in Theatre Studies and a MA in Theatre from the University of Toronto. Through RoleCall, Rebecca has had the chance to direct and produce numerous productions at schools all over Toronto, including: Ledbury Park Elementary and Middle School, West Preparatory Junior Public School, John Ross Robertson Public School, The Bishop Strachan School, John Fisher Public School, Balmy Beach Community School and The Mabin School.  She has also had the privilege of running the Musical Theatre program at Bayview Glen Day Camp for the past three summers.  Before founding RoleCall, Rebecca worked with a number of youth theatre companies such as The Toronto Youth Theatre, Theatre Extravaganza and The Loraine Kimsa Theatre for Young People. She also led the drama programs for the Horizons Summer program and Camp Kadimah.
In addition, Rebecca has directed a number of theatrical productions both in Toronto and in Halifax.  Rebecca is also an actor and singer who has had the chance to perform in many exciting productions and is currently featured in the new thirteen episode Bravo television series, Way Off Broadway which premiers on March 2nd 2012 at 8:00 pm. As musical theatre is her true passion, Rebecca loves working with the talented young performers at RoleCall Theatre!

Jan Sutin

Jan Sutin
Jan Sutin obtained her Bachelor of Education degree from the University of Toronto in 1980.   She has always had a strong interest in theatre and loves working with children and teens.
After volunteering with Sick Children’s Hospital, the Bloorview Macmillan Center and Centennial Infant and Child Centre for over ten years, Jan decided to actively pursue her interest in theatre. In 2005 Jan became one of the founding members of the Toronto Youth Theatre.  She served on the Toronto Youth Theatre Board of Directors for three years and worked closely with young directors, choreographers, and producers of various musicals.  Jan also acted as a mentor and “cast mother” to the young performers in the company.

Since 1998, Jan has worked alongside her daughter, Rebecca, on various theatrical projects as a stage manager and “cast mother.”  She is delighted to be working with her daughter, once again, and utilizing her skills as a teacher, theatre practitioner and of course, mother with RoleCall Theatre Company.

Brooke Averill

Brooke began her career as an actress/ singer at an early age. She started out at Unionville High school in the Arts York Drama program. From there, she auditioned and was accepted into St. Lawrence College for the Musical Theatre program where she studied ballet, jazz, hip hop, salsa, modern, and many other styles of dance. She was trained in many aspects of music such as masterclass, intensive vocal training and performance, and theory. She also was trained in scene work, monologues, improv, and comedy and has starred in shows with the College performed at the Brockville Arts Center such as Oklahoma, Little Women, Footloose, Joseph and the Technicolor Dream Coat, and Unity 1918. Brooke moved on to explore her comedic talents by taking workshops and performing with Second City and Yuk Yuks comedy clubs in Toronto. She has recently completed her second contract with Disney Cruise Line as an Entertainment Host, where she performed as several different characters in shows such as Once Upon A Time with the Disney princesses, Aloha Luau with Lilo and Stitch, Puzzle Playtime with Mickey and friends, and Toy Story Bootcamp, as Corporal Green. Brooke’s strengths include singing, character work, comedy and performance. She enjoys working with kids to improve their skills and confidence in performing. Brooke’s love of performing shines through in her work and she hopes to share her passion, knowledge and skills with the children of Role Call Theatre and to provide a fun and playful atmosphere to try new things and find who they are as a performer.

Sami Markowitz:

Sami has been dancing since she was 3 years old. She is trained in ballet,  jazz, acro, tap, hip-hop and musical theatre and has performed in numerous  dance competitions, exams and recitals.  Sami is a certified Zumba instructor and is very involved in the fitness  industry. She has also participated in several Randolph Young Company’s  theatre productions, such as High School Musical  and Footloose. As well as a cast member, she was the dance captain for  their production of West Side Story. Sami is most passionate about her work with children and she is currently working  towards a Bachelor of Arts degree in Humanities at York University as well as a Bachelor of Education, as she  plans to become an elementary school teacher. Sami has been working with Rebecca since 2010 and couldn’t be more xcited about what the future entails!

Stephanie Barone

Stephanie Barone graduated from Dalhousie University with a Bachelor of Arts, combined honours in Music and Theatre. Since graduating, she has had the opportunity to perform at various events as a soloist, sings in the soprano section of the Nathaniel Dett Chorale and is a resident musician at First Unitarian Congregation of Toronto. Stephanie loves singing in choirs and quartets, however Musical Theatre and Acting are her passions. She teaches private and group voice lessons to singers of all ages, sharing her love of music with them. This is her first year working as a Musical Director for Role Call Theatre and it has been a blast!
